Intermediate Tradesman Collaborative Training Scheme (ITCTS)

This is an “first-hire-then-train” on-the-job training scheme. Trainees will first be employed on a monthly salary by their employers, who will arrange for them to receive initial training at the Hong Kong Institute of Construction (HKIC). Allowance from HKIC will be provided to the trainees during the initial training. Upon completion of the initial training, trainees will proceed to on-site training at their employer’s construction site. After finishing the entire training, passing the relevant Intermediate Trade Tests (Semi-skilled Workers) / Certification Test / Completion Test and registering as “registered semi-skilled workers” in the relevant trades under the Construction Workers Registration Ordinance (if applicable), they will be awarded a one-time bonus of HKD 10,000.

Intermediate Tradesman Collaborative Training Scheme (Skills Enhancement Courses) (ITCTS-SEC)

Under this scheme, training bodies provide training covering theories and practice related to safety measures, equipment, tools and materials in the relevant trades to train general workers to become intermediate tradesmen. A bonus of HK$7,000 will be provided to the trainees who achieve the specified attendance rate, pass the Intermediate Trade Test and register as registered semi-skilled workers of the relevant trade under the “Construction Workers Registration Ordinance”. An additional test passing bonus of HK$7,000 will be provided to trainees who are still working in the relevant work trades 3 months after graduation.

Intermediate Tradesman Collaborative Training Scheme (Skills Enhancement Courses) Special Class of "Multi-Skilled" Training Course

HKIC strives for uplifting the skill levels of in-service workers, and launched the Special Class of "Multi-skilled” training course under the Intermediate Tradesman Collaborative Training Scheme (Skills Enhancement Courses) in January 2024.This Special Class aims to encourage registered semi-skilled workers and skilled workers to receive training of another work trade (50 hours in total) and obtain relevant intermediate trade qualifications, thereby enable workers to participate in more construction projects, enhancing their employment opportunities and fully utilising their talent and skills, thus unleashing the greater potential of the workforce, as well as facilitating a more flexible deployment of the construction workforce. The HKIC will also provide 70% tuition fee subsidy for each trainee.

Advanced Construction Manpower Training Scheme - Pilot Scheme (Skills Enhancement Courses) (ACMTS-SEC)

Under this scheme, training bodies provide training covering theories and practice related to safety measures, equipment, tools and materials in the relevant trades to train intermediate tradesmen to become senior tradesmen. After finishing the entire training, passing the relevant Intermediate Trade Tests (Skilled Workers) and registering as “registered skilled workers” in the relevant trades under the Construction Workers Registration Ordinance, trainees will be awarded a one-time bonus of HKD 16,000.

Certificate in Construction and Safety Practice

Construction Industry and Safety Practices Certificate (Course Code: FSOZ): With the continuous improvement of safety awareness in the construction industry, there is an increasing demand for registered safety officers. This part-time program provides a pathway for students to become construction safety officers through the "First-hire-then-train" model.

Co-organised / Commissioned programmes

To meet the specific needs of the construction industry and related industries, HKIC often organises commissioned courses with customised course design. These courses are conducted either in the form of skill demonstration at workshops or classroom instruction, or both, subject to the requirements of the relevant organisations and the needs of the course. These organisations include government bodies, construction companies, public organisations and tertiary institutions.

HKIC usually charges the relevant organisations a nominal fee to cover the essential expenses of conducting the courses.
